Rock climbing days typically don’t require heavy outerwear, but it’s always a good idea to bring a jacket for changing conditions. If you’re heading out in the cooler seasons, here are some of our go-to layering pieces from Arc’teryx to help you stay warm and comfortable on the wall.

Clothing:

• Sun Shirt – Synthetic, quick-drying (Cormac Hoody Men’s, Taema Hoody Women’s)

• Lightweight Fleece Top (Delta Pullover Hoody Men’s, Aestas Pullover Hoody Women’s) 

• Softshell Jacket (Gamma Hoody Men’s, Gamma Hoody Women’s)

• Hiking/Softshell Pants (Gamma Pant Men’s, Gamma Pant Women’s)

• For Dry Weather - Kragg Cotton Pant Men’s, Kragg Cotton Pant’s Women’s

• Insulated Jacket (Atom Hoody Men’s, Atom Hoody Women’s)

• Leather Gloves – For belaying and rappelling, hardware store work gloves will work (Rope Glove)

• Sun Hat – Baseball caps or packable sun hat (Gamma 5 Panel Hat)

Technical Climbing Gear: We can provide all of your technical gear, except for climbing shoes. Please let us know if you need anything.

• Approach Shoes – Most closed toed shoes are appropriate, but approach shoes can increase your stability significantly, especially relevant in certain venues. (Konseal Shoe Men’s, Konseal Shoe Women’s)

• Rock Climbing Shoes – Any rock climbing shoe is appropriate, but we suggest bringing something that is comfortable for long periods of time, or multiple pairs

• Climbing Harness – Rock climbing harness. We are able to provide you with a harness, please just let us know. (AR-395A Harness Men’s, AR-395A Harness Women’s).

• Climbing Helmet – We can provide you with a helmet. Please just let us know. (ex: Petzl Meteor, Petzl Meteora)

• Locking Carabiners – 2 HMS (pear-shaped) locking carabiners for attaching to a rope and belaying. We can provide these. (ex. Petzl Attache)

• 120cm Sling – Used to create a personal anchor for rappelling. We can provide these. (ex. Petzl Pur’anneau)

• Belay Device – Used for belaying and rappelling. Must be able to rappel on two strands. We will provide these. (ex. Petzl Reverso) 

Personal Gear:

• Day Pack – A small to medium-sized backpack to carry group and personal gear (Alpha SL 30 Backpack)

• Lunch/Snacks – Bring about 1000 calories with you for the day

• Water Bottles – Two, 1-liter bottles or a 2-liter soft reservoir. (ex: Nalgene, HydraPak Seeker 2L)

• Sunglasses - Polarized lenses will help protect your eyes on bright days

• Sun Block – SPF 30 or higher
