Rock Climbing Gear
We proudly partner with Mountain Shop for retail and rental gear. Program participants receive a 20% discount on all Black Diamond retail items and a 30% discount on rental gear. Mountain Shop stocks climbing helmets, mountaineering boots, crampons, and ice axes for rent, along with backcountry skis, splitboards, skins, poles, and backcountry ski and snowboard boots. Avalanche safety gear is also available for rent.
Personal Gear:
Rock Climbing Shoes – Any rock climbing shoe is appropriate, but we suggest bringing something that is comfortable for long periods of time, or multiple pairs.
Rock Climbing Harness – (Black Diamond Momentum Harness).
Climbing Helmet – (Black Diamond Half Dome Helmet).
Day Pack – A small to medium-sized backpack to carry group and personal gear, 30L is perfect.
Lunch/Snacks – Some easy and quick snacks to stay fueled.
Water Bottles – Two, 1-liter bottles or a 2-liter soft reservoir. (Nalgene, HydraPak Seeker 2L).
Sunglasses - Polarized lenses will help protect your eyes on bright days.
Sun Block – SPF 30 or higher.
Clothing:
Sun Shirt – Synthetic, quick-drying (Black Diamond Alpenglow Hoody).
Lightweight Fleece Top (Black Diamond Diverge).
Softshell Jacket (Black Diamond Dawn Patrol Softshell Jacket).

Technical Gear for Rescue Courses:
5 x Locking Carabiners –HMS (pear-shaped) locking carabiners (Black Diamond RockLock Screwgate Carabiner).
6 x Carabiners –Standard non-locking carabiners (Black Diamond MiniWire Carabiner).
2 x 120cm Sling –Used to create a personal anchor for rappelling and building anchors (Black Diamond Runner).
180cm Sling –Used to build anchors (Black Diamond Runner).
20’ Cordelette - MBS ~4000lbs, 7mm nylon or 6mm tech-cord (Sterling Powercord).
Tube Style Belay Device – Used for belaying and rappelling. Must be able to rappel on two strands (Black Diamond ATC Guide).
Micro Traxion - A progress capture device with a pulley for efficiency (Petzl Micro Traxion).
Prusik Loop - Used for tying a third-hand back up (Sterling Autoblock).
